Snooze, you lose…weight!
Good news for sleepy heads: recent research indicates a positive relationship between getting lots of sleep and weight loss. Factors such as when meals and bedtime are scheduled also make a difference:
“Higher BMI (Body Mass Index) was associated with short sleep duration, later sleep timing, caloric consumption after 8:00 PM, and fast food meals.”
The study, reported in Obesity, suggests that paying attention to the timing of eating and sleeping can boost effectiveness of weight management programs. For those who dine early and head for bed by midnight, it’s a dream come true – not so much for those who dinner late and then snack until crashing out.
